Friends Of The River Medway warmly invite you to join us for an afternoon Workshop to craft Pilgrim Badges in support of our upcoming River Pilgrimage – From Source to Sea.
For centuries past, Pilgrims have worn badges as small tokens of devotion, protection and recognition. Traditionally made of lead or pewter, these humble emblems were often blessed at the commencement of Pilgrimage and at shrines and sacred places enroute. Today, they remain powerful symbols of intention, commitment and belonging.
In that spirit, we warmly invite you to take part in a joyful afternoon of making and meaning, as we gather to craft Pilgrim Badges for those walking this summer’s River Medway Pilgrimage which will then be offered in blessing for each Pilgrim as they take up their journey from Source to Sea.
Our workshop will also include a short talk on the history and symbolism of Pilgrim Badges with a sharing of some examples of badges from ages past.
This will be a creative and heart-centred workshop open to all aged 12 and above. Whether you’re a maker, a well-wisher, or simply drawn to the spirit of pilgrimage, we’d love to have you with us. All materials will be provided and refreshments will be available.
Please note that due to some of the materials and equipment that we will be using, this workshop is not suitable for children under the age of 12.
